Rainbow Honey: The Yokai Collection

When this limited edition collection came out last year, it sold out fairly quickly. It was difficult to obtain if you didn't win a giveaway once it was gone, but when Rainbow Honey set up shop at Philadelphia's Christmas Village market, they offered the collection to those who could make the trek there. Since I had been planning on going anyway, I excitedly grabbed these while I was there. Fortunately, for those of you who couldn't get ahold of the collection, they're available online again! I don't know for how long, so go HERE if you want to get yours.

Kawako, Oni, Kitsune

Kawako is described as: "The Mischievous River Child - our interpretation of the Kappa, depicted as everything from a water sprite to a river demon. Erring on the gentler side, 'Kawako' is full of gorgeous silver and ice blue shimmer, with the occasional iridescent blue flake."

I am a huge fan of blue, so this grabbed my attention the first time I saw it. Bonus points for the flecks of silver strewn throughout! It's a deep, complex, opaque sapphire that catches the sun in all the right places. Consistency was great, with full coverage in two coats. It did have random large flakes in it which were sometimes difficult to pin down, but aside from that, it was easy to manipulate.

Kitsune is described as: "The Magical White Fox - 'Kitsune' can refer to your ordinary red fox, but our 'Kitsune' is a glorious nine-tailed creature: fiery, wise, and absolutely gorgeous. In a cream base full of gold shimmer and flecks you will find an array of glitter in a bonfire palette, ready to spark a fire in your heart."

Kitsune is easily my favorite from the collection. Normally, I struggle with nudes, but I am obsessed with how this looks on me. The subtle, multi-colored glitter was an unexpected surprise! I can see pinks, reds, gold, and even some silver. The formula is almost a one-coater, but I did two to ensure full coverage. My word this was perfect. I almost want to buy a second bottle for when I inevitably run out of this one. Gorgeous.

Oni is described as: "The Malevolent Wild Demon - Let's be honest, Oni are generally depicted as wicked and hideous. Our 'Oni' may be wicked and supernatural, but with its myriad of glass flecks and multi-chromatic shimmer it is hard to call it hideous. In fact, the consensus seems to be that it is one of the most beautiful and intense polishes out there this fall!"

Coming in at a close second favorite, Oni gives the same unexpected surprise that Kitsune does - the multi-colored, subtle flecks of glitter. I spot fuchsia, gold, orange, bronze, and silver, among many more. Brown can be a pretty boring color, but its rich boldness with the hue of bronze makes Oni an eye-catching must-have. The formula is great, with only two coats needed. I agree with the description - it's one of the most intense, beautiful polishes for fall. I think it's timeless, really. I'll be wearing it next season, for sure.

  3. I stumbled across your page googling nail polish swatches. I don't know you and I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but I just read through a few of your blogs (congras on the baby btw) and it seems to me maybe you wouldn't be so tired if instead of blogging and doing your nails you would sleep when the baby sleeps. You mention sleeping when she sleeps yet I wonder where you find time to do your nails, blog, clean, cook, shower and so on. lol. I just think you'd probably feel less emotionally exhausted as you mentioned on your previous posts if you weren't staring at a computer screen and inhaling paint fumes.

    1. While I'm super glad that you except all new moms to do simply act as food vessels for their babies, it's actually healthy and encouraged for mothers (new or otherwise) to take time for themselves too. Parenting a newborn is always exhausting, even if you sleep for the 15 minutes it takes to blog, or the 20 minutes it takes to do your nails. While I'm sure you are/would be a model parent who caters to your child's every need every second or everyday, your judgmental insanity is unwelcome and frankly, kind of insulting.

    2. Ah, this is what I get for replying from my phone - *super glad that you EXPECT all new mom to do nothing but simply act as food vessels. I know English, I swears it.

    3. Janet: I appreciate you taking the time to browse my blog and comment. As for the content of your comment, I can explain a few things (I realize I shouldn't have to, but I like to so that others with the same concerns can get their questions answered). Blogging is not just a hobby for me, but my actual career path. It became crucial to me to ensure that I keep up my passion and work so that I can continue to provide for my readers, my wallet, and my own sanity. It is important for me to not forget daily tasks, chores, and pleasures because if I were to just sleep and feed her, I would be more emotionally exhausted than I already am. I am not a food bag that must forgo personal hygiene and use only quick granola bars for food in favor of the constant demands of a newborn. If my own health isn't taken care of, I can't take care of her, and that includes my happiness. Taking the time to cook, or do my nails (both only take 15-20 minutes, at most) keep me grounded. And I have to shower eventually! If I don't clean or shower, the whole place falls apart, and a messy apartment makes for an unhappy mom and dad. On the scope of how long the day is, these things take very little time. I still catch a nap now and then, and my husband and I go to bed around 8:30PM to ensure that we can get some semblance of sleep. As for the paint fumes and computer screen? I don't spend the entire day on my low-lit laptop, and the air purifier I have next to my open window does wonders, in addition to lower-toxicity levels of the brands I elect to use. I hope this clears up any questions you have and any misconception you might have about motherhood.

    4. My apologies if my comment came across the wrong way. I am a mother to three children myself, so when I read your post about how exhausted you were I thought it might be helpful to point out that you could shower and sleep instead of doing your nails or updating your twitter or blogging. Computer screens wreak havoc on tired eyes and I was simply suggesting you might feel more rested if you turned the computer off and did other things instead.

Also, I was not aware that you actually earned a living through your blog. I see you're syndicated on blogher but I see only two of your posts have been used by them, and you don't feature advertisements on your blog, so you'll forgive me if it wasn't immediately apparent that this is your livlihood.

    5. Apparent earnings or not, in a digital age, it's a fair assumption to look at blog such as this and see that there may be more going on than a typical 'day in the life' sort of scenario. Writing does not earn overnight. It is a process and a tedious one at that. To stop putting time into it is to throw in the towel.

So, in those rare quiet moments, pursuing something that could open many more doors for not only earning potential, but also personal happiness is entirely worthwhile and a sanity saver at the very least.

There is much more to this life than simply being Mom.

I speak as a proud momma, myself.
